Infinite Ryvius (also known as Mugen no Ryvius) has been described as "Lord of the Flies" in space, and for good reason. Although firmly rooted in a science fiction world, the emphasis isn't on fancy space ships or battles as much as it is focused on the interactions of a set of students, all stuck onboard a ship after an accident causes their space academy, the Liebe Delta, to be badly damaged. Although the plot develops slowly at first, the conflicts begin to get more heated as alliances are formed and broken and various factions vye for control over the ship. There are a number of space battles, but these just become another point of dissent amongst the students, and before long the emotions and teenage angst start spiralling out of control.
Although the series aired in 1999 and Bandai announced it had licensed the series in 2002, it has taken until now for it to be released in the United States, and about time, to. If you enjoy character-driven series, this is definately one to check out.
